This is basically a large compilation of all the symbols that I think are commonly used for RP and other HTML/internet purposes. Though most have actual legitimate practical purposes, we all love using them for other things. This chart is by no means complete. If you would like a full symbol reference chart, I suggest the following the places: dnmark's special characters, unicode.org's charts, and macchiato.com's charts. As you can see, the lists are HUGE. Hence why compiling all the more commonly used symbols and letters should be helpful.
A few things to note about my charts. I have them very loosely categorized. By loose I mean three: misc symbols (like punctuation), shapes, and letters. Though within each category I try to group them by similarity, like game pieces, weather symbols, zodiac signs, mathematical symbols, languages, type, etc. It's by no means perfect, but it'll do. Also, to make it easier to tell what the symbols are, I actually have them enlarged. So for instance, by default a heart symbol looks like this: ♥. Kind of small. So to make it easier, I have both the default and a larger version. It's upped to font size 28px, so it looks like this: ♥. Lastly, I provide both the symbol that one can easily copy/paste and the actual code. So for hearts it's "♥".
Suggestion! I highly recommend using the actual code for symbols, especially if you are using the custom LJ layouts using the LJ layers technique from Starlit. At the time I'm writing this, these symbols turn into gibberish on the layouts for some weird reason. They look fine on normal DW layouts and when the style is off. But on the actual customized layouts, it's wrong. Some do work, but some others don't. (I'll edit this if this ever changes.)
Troubleshooting: The symbols don't show up on my browser! Some people may not be able to see certain symbols while others might. It could turn out gibberish or a square with numbers in it, like this: ♷ That means your computer doesn't have the proper font installed. A good place to look up how to install these (both for PCs and Macs) would be here at Unicode. For the most part, you'll have to check certain language and regional options.
If there are any symbols you'd like to see added to the charts, just comment to the post! Even if you don't know the code, I'll be able to look it up. Feel free to link this anywhere and use it at your leisure.
